FACULTY OF EDUCATION HAN

The design for the HAN education faculty is uniquely sustainable in its essence. As a four layer building fully constructed of wood, it is the only one of its kind in the Netherlands. The heart of the building is open to view from the outside and daylight streams in from the ceiling onto the green interior gardens. The building is hospitable and its warmth is meant to welcome and encourage the staff and students of the HAN into using the building for a long time.
The atriums house luscious green trees and afford a direct line of sight to the solar panels on the roof. All the vegetation contributes to the overall well-being of the users of the building, as well as enriching its sustainable image. The logical distribution, and the multifunctionality and flexibility of space are all important additions to our design’s sustainability.
Our decision to enforce a four-story wood construction led to an impressive greencalc score (MIG) of 395 and an EPC of 0.234. In conjunction with the wooden façade, the spacious atriums abounding in plants and trees express building’s eco-friendly nature.
