HEALTHCARE CENTRE HET NOORDERDOK
Healthcare centre het Noorderdok forms part of the neighbourhood centre of the Stripheldenbuurt (cartoon characters district). It comprises a day centre for psychiatric clients and a healthcare centre with general practitioners, physiotherapy, a clinic, social services office, and a pharmacy.
The healthcare centre and the day centre are in two separate buildings connected by means of continuous garden walls. They thus form a complex with the entrance and the public areas looking out over the central plaza of the neighbourhood centre. The complex encloses a number of secluded gardens and a patio, ensuring optimum privacy for the various functions.
Within the healthcare centre all the publicly accessible functions are located around a spacious lobby. Within the lobby the various waiting areas are set out around a patio. The patio garden brings light and life into this central area. The plan was designed to minimise the walking distances for the assistants, doctors, and physiotherapists. On the ground floor of the day centre for psychiatric clients is the club house. This is an open and well-lit area next to the enclosed garden. Within the garden are a garden workshop, a greenhouse, and a terrace that catches the sun. The upper floor houses the various activity rooms.
