LAAN VAN SPARTAAN
The “Laan van Spartaan” facilities cluster is located on the corner of the Jan van Galenstraat and the Rinus Michelslaan in Amsterdam West and boasts a rich and dynamic program. Below the 84 apartments the Laan accommodates a sports center and a street-level strip of double-height commercial spaces for start-up companies.
The sports center is divided into a large sports hall and a smaller gym. With a 9 meter clearance height, the larger sports hall was specially designed with the local badminton club in mind. The gym has a 7 meter clearance height, and the entire center meets the requirements of the NOC*NSF.
Along with the noise pollution from the traffic on the A10, the sports center in the base also contributes to the high sound transmission in the building. By placing the large sports areas and gyms in the middle of the building and disconnection them from the rest of the adjoining building functions, we have greatly limited the noise contamination for the surrounding environment.
