Richelle de Jong gives lecture on Mytylschool De Brug design during AIR evening on accessibility

2025.10.01

On Tuesday, October 7, Richelle de Jong will give a lecture on Mytylschool De Brug in Rotterdam's Central Library during an evening organized by AIR on accessibility. One in five Dutch people live with a disability and experience on a daily basis that the city is not designed for them. While design can play a key role in social and physical accessibility. Various speakers will address the question of how we can work together to create an urban environment that truly works for everyone.

At the secondary education campus on Argonautenweg in Rotterdam, DP6 designed two secondary schools, Wolfert Dalton and Mytylschool De Brug, a VMBO/HAVO school for young people with physical and/or multiple disabilities. Richelle will talk about the campus plan, how DP6 designed De Brug according to the motto: Learning, Meeting, and Living: special where necessary, normal where possible, and how students with and without disabilities meet and learn from each other on campus.

Séverine Kas will talk more about the new NEN 9120: a national standard based on the principle that everyone should be able to enter and use a building, regardless of disability. Bülent Unlu (Province of South Holland), Hanneke Kamphuis (BOOR Foundation), Lex Aarts (010Toegankelijk), and Margit van Schaik (RAvB) will participate in the panel discussions.

The evening starts at 20:00h. Entry is free, but do reserve your ticket in advance.
