18 bridges in nature parks
The new bridges for the cluster of nature-parks are a reinterpretation of the current footbridges scattered throughout the parks. Special attention was paid to the characteristics of the current bridges. Reserved and simple, with a sober and systematic approach to the materials, the bridges are meant to blend seamlessly into their natural environment. These integrative characteristics anchor the design of the new bridges. Other important aspects affecting material choice and detail are issues of sustainability and limited maintenance.
The sketches for the bridges call for steel plating, or curved steel plate construction. Coupled with a top plate and a bottom plate, the deck of the bridge can span larger lengths with a thickness of only 25 cm. By employing this method of construction the width of the bridges is easily modified to fit whatever family it eventually belongs to. Reconditioning the edges of the deck causes a slim and clean line of sight. The bridges are designed in weathered steel; the corroded outer surface will act as a natural, durable protective layer, eliminating the need for any other protective coatings or paint-layers.
