New assignments

Yet more wonderful new projects at DP6! For Lucas Onderwijs in The Hague, we are going to work on the redevelopment of Liduina primary school and a new child centre on Rooseboomstraat.

Liduina primary school
The commission for Liduina primary school consists of a new volume connected to an existing building with character. In the DP6 design proposal, the existing building is preserved up to the gymnasium. Added to this is a new low-rise wing that does not compete with the existing and distinctive image of the tall facades. Moreover, repositioning and renewing the rear facade enlarges the classrooms and preserves the structure of the building. The new central entrance is located in the new wing and leads directly to the heart of the school. Connecting the sunken playrooms and one of the after-school activity spaces here creates a large assembly hall with space for interaction, celebrations and performances.

Rooseboomstraat child centre
The L-shaped design for the new child centre on Rooseboomstraat creates a safe school playground and forms a prominent corner object with views of the green edge around the sports fields. The building blends harmoniously with the surroundings thanks to its height, yellow brickwork, horizontal fenestration, expressive corner articulation and the entrance design with a welcoming canopy. But the building is also distinctive in appearance: a calm, somewhat playful and inviting facade with alternating open and closed planes that reflect the identity of the users. The building composition with two wings that house the two part¬ners offers the possibility to give each of the two occupants their own place and identity. At the same time, we shape the continuous learning line and the partners meet each other in a spacious heart, which is shared and multifunctional.

Gemini College
A key quality of the site of the new Gemini College and sports hall is the parklike setting with mature trees and a pleasant outdoor space for schoolchildren in green surroundings. Widening the existing water features and prioritizing flora along the banks makes Gemini College a final instalment in the green ribbon that runs through Ridderkerk.
Facing in all directions, Gemini College connects with the entire surroundings. The building volume is determined by the flowing lines of the surroundings and ensures optimal orientation. The transparency of the plinth enhances the sense of life and ensures a good atmosphere.
