New Arts Centre and Theatre

The building’s design takes the shape of a raised landscape, forming a new meeting place at the intersection of the urban living axis and the events axis. On its west side the building opens up to the new Fisktorget piazza and the green axis along the river, and on the east side a cut in the slope and a raised volume create a focal point on the seafront and along the new E4 esplanade. This gives the building a scale matching that of the Stone Town, turning it into an iconographic structure that complements the prominent location and the programme. At the same time, the newly pedestrianised Fisktorget piazza, now screened from the cold sea winds, has been transformed into a pleasant rendezvous setting for any time of the day.
